Cancel Hulu via Google Play Store

If you signed up for Hulu on an Android device and Google Play collected the payment, Google controls the renewal rather than Hulu’s account settings. Cancelling through the Google Play Store prevents the next automatic charge and normally preserves access until the current paid period ends. You can complete this process from Australia without being able to stream Hulu locally.

Hulu’s standard service is not generally available in Australia, where viewers commonly use Netflix, Disney+, Stan, Paramount+ and other local or imported services. Some Australians subscribed while travelling in the United States or use an account and payment method tied to that market. A Google Play receipt may show Australian dollars and 10% GST, or US dollars and US tax, depending on how the purchase was created.

Check Which Company Took the Payment

Start with the original Hulu receipt or the subscription listed under the Google account used to sign up. If it identifies Google Play as the billing provider, cancelling there will stop future Play renewals. The card, PayPal account or Google Pay balance may have funded the purchase, but the company responsible for billing remains Google.

The device used for playback does not always identify the billing provider. An Australian might watch Hulu on an Android phone while having subscribed through Apple’s App Store, or purchase directly from the Hulu website. A Play purchase normally belongs to the Google account that authorised it, even if the actual Hulu profile was created with an email address. Reviewing the receipt prevents a cancellation attempt in the wrong account.

Find Hulu in Google Play

On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture and select Payments & subscriptions. Choose Subscriptions, locate Hulu and tap its listing. Some versions place subscriptions under a Budget or Payments menu, so the exact labels can differ slightly between Android releases and account settings.

If Hulu is missing from that list, open your profile menu again and check Payments & subscriptions > Budget > History for the original transaction. You can also visit play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions while signed in to the same Google account. This method is useful if the Play Store app is unavailable or you manage the account from a computer in Brisbane, Melbourne or another Australian city.

Cancel the Hulu Membership

Open the Hulu entry in Google Play and select Cancel subscription or Manage. Choose a reason for cancelling, confirm the selection and complete any final verification. Depending on the account, Google may display the total that will no longer be charged, along with the date on which access to the paid period will end.

Some subscription screens initially open the Hulu app before redirecting to Google Play billing. In that case, select the option to manage or cancel through Google Play and complete the cancellation there. If no cancellation control appears, the membership may have been bought directly from Hulu or through Apple rather than Google Play.

Confirm the Cancellation and Access

Google normally sends a cancellation confirmation to the Gmail address connected with the purchase. Open the Play Store again and check that Hulu’s status no longer says it will renew, then save the confirmation email and final receipt. Cancelling usually does not provide an immediate refund, and access generally continues through the period already paid for. A trial may be stopped before its expiry, depending on the terms shown at signup.

A renewal transaction might still appear if cancellation was completed close to the billing date. Check Payments & subscriptions > Budget > History before assuming the cancellation failed. The displayed timestamp can fall on a different calendar date in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne because Australia spans several time zones. If money was debited, contact Google Play support with the order number rather than attempting to cancel the same subscription again.

Handle Refunds and Future Charges

For a subscription purchased through Google Play, open the relevant order and use Request refund or Contact support. Google Play’s refund rules determine eligibility and timing, so contact it promptly if the membership was duplicated, renewed incorrectly or renewed without authorisation. Hulu cannot refund a Play transaction it did not collect. Direct Hulu purchases must be disputed with Hulu through its own billing support channel.

Australian Consumer Law may also be relevant when a digital service was not supplied as described, particularly if the purchase was made through an Australian Google account. The responsible company can depend on the billing arrangement, so include screenshots of the receipt, cancellation notice and access problem when contacting Google or a state or territory consumer agency. Once the next renewal date passes without another debit, the cancelled membership remains inactive until a new subscription is authorised.
